Obama India journey - Is $200 million per day truly necessary?

India and a number of nearby nations could be getting a visit from President Obama. This Obama India trip will take about four days. The Obama India trip is mostly for relationship building, and when no huge changes in the partnership are expected, it has been highly anticipated. The cost of this trip has been reported up to $200 million a day. Is this a true record, and is the trip worth it.

Obama goes on trip to India leading to over-documented expenses

One Indian news outlet reported the cost of the Obama India trip at $200 million per day. The cost of the journey is something the White House won't release. Estimating $200 million per day is probably a little too high though. Tommy Vietor is the white House spokesman. He spoke about the India trip cost:

“Due to security concerns, we are struggling to outline details associated with security procedures and costs, but it’s safe to say these numbers are wildly inflated.”

Obama India journey for relationship building

The four day journey to India was made by Obama for a reason. This was so the two countries could have stronger relationships developed. India trades about $40 billion per year with the United States, and the countries also have a civil nuclear cooperation agreement. India’s foreign minister, Nirupama Rao, addressed Obama’s India trip by saying “We are not at a stage in our partnership maybe for one more large bang, but certainly there could be good outcomes.”

A president traveling costs a lot

Various million dollars each day could be paid for the Obama India trip. When a president travels, it's not by himself. The White House has to tag along. This is not only to ensure that they continue working when away from the office but to address any major issues that come up through the trip. Media has to pay themselves for trips like this, from time to time with a no fax payday loan, while the president has much of the expenses going towards security. Working class individuals will not have to pay any more or less than usual for the Obama India journey.
