The real cost of Disney Movie Club

There is a “media club” for Disney DVDs. The DMC sends films on a monthly basis. Though the club provides 4 films for $ 1.99. There is, however, a huge trap to this club. The catch can be an expensive one, if you don’t act appropriately.

The DMC deal

There has been a huge uptick in interest in the DMC lately. The Disney Movie Club is offering four DVDs for $1.99 each. The Disney Movie Club has a huge library of 1,600 movies. In this collection are the action movies along with the “traditional” animated Disney movies. Regularly, starting within the Disney Movie Club calls for a fee of $19.95.

What’s the snag then

There is a trap, even though two four films for $7.96 seems amazing. The Disney Movie Club requires that you purchase at least five “full-price” films in the next two years. You can’t pick which movies are shipped to you. It’s automatic. You simply receive films within the mail, and if you do not want them you have to mail them back. The movies have to be sent back in a week. Two weeks will be the longest you have. You’ll automatically be charged for the Movie if it isn’t returned fast enough.

Exactly what being within the DMC costs

The DMC is a good package, or so seems like. Figure out the real costs before joining it. Advertising clubs will charge you “full price” for the majority of the DVDs mailed to you. That can be $30 or more for each DVD. You have to mail the Movie back really quickly if you would like the automatic charge to cancel. If you are a fan of Disney movies, it may be less costly to just purchase the films when they come out. Many like the Disney Movie Club because they get lots of films. Also, the films come automatically. Some of you might be thinking that you are attempting to pinch pennies. If this is you, just wait a month or so and purchase them movies discounted and used.

Hamid Karzai admits taking totes of money from Iran

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has been called a “puppet president” by some and head of a corrupt regime by others. Now he tells – however does not shock – the collective world media that he has been receiving “bags of cash” from Iran and the United States for years. Some sources suggest that this anticlimactic revelation begs the question of whether Iran and also the United States of America are getting what they paid for.

Cash taken for ‘official presidential expenses’ by Karzai

Once or twice a year, “donation” are given to Hamid Karzai from Iran. These gifts are usually $700,000 to $975,000. Karzai said that the U.S. government has known about this Iranian assistance for many years and that Washington also sends the Afghan palace “bags of cash.”. Iran had been providing Umar Daudzai cash, reports the New York Times, which is why numerous think Karzai may have made this announcement. The money has allegedly been used to pay back Afghan lawmakers, tribal elders and high-ranking Taliban officials.

Karzai usually takes money from ’several nations’ because his office is lacking in income

The CIA World Factbook explains that Afghanistan’s economy had been really bad for a when. Then the Taliban regime in 2001 fell which helped. The country is “highly dependent on foreign aid, agriculture and trade with neighboring nations.” This is even after all the international assistance being given as aid. This is supposedly true although opium and hashish product comes from Afghanistan more than anywhere else within the world. A lot of money comes from the opium and other illegal drug trade which is why Karzai would not be that interested in stopping it. This has the Obama administration frustrated with the country.

The public in Afghanistan shows Karzai as an ineffective ruler Today’s Views explains. This isn’t because of the common beliefs that many would think, Wikipedia states. Numerous poor farmers are being forced to get into trading drugs since poppies are the nation’s number one cash crop and also the economy in Afghanistan is mostly agriculture based upon. The farmers don’t end up getting much money out of it either. Since other countries are feeding Karzai so much cash, this makes sense. Hamid Karzai probably is just taking it.

Flippa - Good website marketplace or expensive storefront?

When it comes to selling domain names, Flippa has all of a sudden become a large title. Flippa, the marketplace, is now the place that FaceMash is being sold. Many domain buyers and sellers, though, are concerned that Flippa is simply too expensive to use.

Those who want FaceMash can check on Flippa

Domains are sold at Flippa. Lucky for Flippa, a large listing had been posted. Zuckerberg created the first version of Facebook at FaceMash.com. This is now for sale though. Though the website is currently owned by a creating social network, it is available for purchase. There are three days left on the sale although the price is at $30,000 for now. Sony Pictures is the current owner of a comparable address, FaceMash.net, which is featured in the film “The Social Network.”

Flippa and also the business of web-domain

Flippa is just one of numerous marketplaces used to purchase and sell domains. Flippa was started in 2009 by the web development blog Sitepoint. Between beginning up and August 2010, over $40 million in web domains had been sold by the marketplace. Almost always there is something available to be bought at Flippa. About 1,000 choices at any time are available. About $2,000 is needed to buy one of these domains. A no fax loans wouldn’t be useful for that.

Sales that Flippa makes

A popular spot to go to sell web domains is Flippa. There are some troubles associated though. Only about 54 percent of the domains available on Flippa usually sell. Flippa charges relatively high prices for its services. The listing fee for a domain is only $19, however there is a 5 percent “success fee” — 5 percent of the final revenue price. It will cost you $99 if you choose to waive the success fee. Everything from tweets to front-page listings to highlights and bolds cost extra. Flippa prices are too high. Even buyers know this. Is having the right domain really so essential, or is spending thousands of dollars for a site a wise company decision?

Hill receives strange voice mail from spouse of Thomas

Anita Hill is a Brandeis University professor living outside the media spotlight. However that changed when Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, right wing activist wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, left Hill a curious voice mail message. In accusations that she stands by to this day, Hill said Thomas sexually harassed her in testimony throughout the sitting justice’s senate confirmation hearings. Ginni Thomas called Hill out of the blue Oct. 9 and left a message, which Hill reported to campus police, suggesting that Hill apologize for calling out Clarence Thomas so long ago.

Sexual harassment and Thomas within the same case

Sexual harassment in the workplace was what Hill accused Clarence Thomas of. This occurred In 1991 during Supreme Court confirmation hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Thomas had been accused by Hill of pressuring her on dates, making lewd comments and talking about pornographic films to her. This she did, reports CNN, in hearings televised to all of America. Thomas had been angered at the hearings which he called a “high-tech lynching” and “a national disgrace.” He denied that anything Hill said was true. There had been a 52-48 vote with the all male committee. This was in his favor.

Listening to it say ‘Good morning Anita Hill’

The October 9 message from Ginni Thomas says, based on ABC news:

“Good morning Hill, it is Ginni Thomas. I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and also the years and ask you to think about something. I would love you to think about an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband. So give it some thought. And certainly pray about this and hope that one day you will help us understand why you did what you did. O.K., have a good day.”

An apology isn’t something Anita Hill is willing to make. This is because she said there were not any lies about Clarence Thomas made.

Thomas taints Supreme Court with politics

In a statement Virginia Thomas confirmed leaving the message. She said she did it as a “peacemaking gesture.” She didn’t make any other comments. No timing comments were made. According to the New York Times, Ms. Thomas is known for national politics. She is strong right wing activist too. This year she founded Liberty Central, a political group focused on portraying policies of the Obama administration as “leftist tyranny.”. Since she is the spouse of a Supreme Court justice who’s finances through anonymous right wing donors, numerous wonder if what she is doing with Liberty Central is even lawful.

Facebook outing homosexual users? Document states perhaps

Slight Paranoia accounts that Facebook have be on the wrong side of the user privacy issue – again. A paper by a Microsoft researcher and two fellows from the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems entitled “Challenges in Measuring Online Advertising Systems” consists of troubling findings about Facebook. What the research implies is that there may be yet one more loophole, this time one where Facebook is giving up homosexual users to marketing parties. Source for this article – Report suggests Facebook is outing gay users to sponsors by Personal Money Store.

Facebook allows gay customers with a shown sexual preference get marketed to

Facebook outing gay users isn’t an exercise in mind reading, content scrubbing or candid photo analysis. Whether a Facebook user is interested in men or women is something they can post. This is a fact of Facebook. Zuckerberg begun Facebook for this reason. Considering that Facebook targets ads to users based upon demographic data, it would be no great stretch to also target users based upon upon sexual preference.

Even though these lines are intended to be protected with the personal privacy settings Facebook has, a recent research paper showed that when using a lot of control profiles on Facebook, the fictional gay male character received really different ads than the rest. It had been interesting to note the women didn’t receive really different ads from one one more, even when one had been a fake lesbian. The study authors explain the difference between homosexual and straight male ad targeting by pointing out that a homosexual bar wouldn’t want to place its ads on the profiles of straight men, whereas some straight women may be interested in such an advertisement, writes Gawker.

The ad you click on will look at your ID and preference information

It seems the battle that protection groups have with Facebook is being seen. Advertisers get more info whenever you click their ad. This includes your email address, browsing data and IP address. A user might be shown as homosexual when clicking on the ad. This is how Facebook could out them. An advertisement that is targeted toward gay men will go on someone’s profile, even if the user has selected to keep their sexual preference as private. This means that more “gay-themed” marketing will start to appear after clicking on one ad, claims Gawker.

Programmers generate and release a fully apple-compatible 4.1 unlock

Barely a month after iOS 4.1 was released by Apple, two developers have released programs that allow Mac users to unlock their 4.1 devices. Limera1n and greenpois0n are both programs designed to hack via the basic programming on Apple goods. These jailbreak programs work on iPads, iPhones, and iPods. The 4.1 unlock doesn’t come without debate and legality questions, however.

A phone can use 4.1 unlock tools for a jailbreak

There are just a couple things that 4.1 unlock equipment help when “jailbreaking” or unlocking devices. You are able to make an iPhone or iPad do whatever programming you want it to when you have unlocked the programming already in it. A 4.1 unlock — as well as any jailbreak or unlock — will entirely void the warranty on the system.

Get the limera1n or greenpois0n 4.1 to unlock

There was significant controversy when the 4.1 unlock by programmer Geohot had been released. On 10/10/10, at 10:10 a.m., the unlocking of the iOS 4.1 with Greenpois0n had been going to be released by the Chronic Dev team. Geohot released his jailbreak a day earlier, nevertheless, beating Chronic Dev to the industry. A PC only had one option though. This was the Limera1n. Now you have two tools to unlock your Apple merchandise though. The Limera1n has been released as a tool for Mac too.

Controversy over 4.1 unlocking tools

Individuals have always been working to crack the code that comes with the concept of “locked” programming. From time to time, users just want to improve the programming a device has. The user may have ideas of how it can be better. Other individuals just want the challenge of breaking into it. Everyone wants a challenge here and there. Many users are excited to see these jailbreaks that let them do whichever they want with their purchased devices. You will find some issues that aren’t being looked at though. The iPhone, Android and Blackberry are so separate due to the programming that comes with them. If you can crack or jailbreak the programming, you are basically removing the thing the business is selling. Though unlocking an iPhone is no longer illegal in all situations, it depends on why you are doing it. Plus, 4.1 unlock tools could allow you to do illegal things, which some say means they ought to be banned. Others argue that programming code ! has no place being patented, copyrighted or trademarked within the first place.

Henning, Tennessee postal office scene of shooting

There has been a shooting in the postal office in Henning, Tenn.. The post office shooting reportedly killed two employees, but information are still trickling in. The United States of America Postal service has not confirmed anything other than that there had been an event.

Henning post office shooting

Around 9 a.m. on Monday morning, a post office shooting occurred. This is what WMCTV reports. The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department has reported that two employees were killed. Investigators to help with the investigation are being sent by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. No motive, weapon or suspect has been named yet. Investigators have said to view out for two men. They could be in a maroon Chevrolet Malibu.

Henning postal office shooting leaves two dead

Two female employees were killed at the post office shooting, which multiple sources confirmed. There have not been any official statements released by the U.S. Postal Service except to confirm the Henning Post office did have an incident. There was one witness to the thing. This witness said that the shooting happened during a robbery. Witnesses are being interviewed by law enforcement officials. More reports may come in. When they do, officials can release more info.

Post office shooting gets the FBI’s attention

The shooting is already being investigated by the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office and the TN Bureau of Investigation. The FBI did not let that be an excuse not to get in on the investigation. Because the post office shooting happened in a post office, which is a federal building, it could be considered a federal crime. Charging the individuals that did the crime is not the issue. There are several things they could possibly be charged with. Pre-meditated murder would be the first, among numerous others that could carry life sentences or worse.

Microcars have been born of wartime need

Transportation via the crowded, war-torn streets of Europe during World War II made the size of microcars a necessity. Such inexpensive automobiles with engines smaller than 750 cubic centimeters and a length of less than 10 feet have been perfect for cash-strapped families to navigate through densely populated cities. Collectors treasure microcars more for their style now, reports the brand new York Times. Microcars are now darlings of the collectors’ circuit.

Microcars – Futuristic style and practical purpose

The United States begun to use much larger vehicles with automotive marketing within the 1940s and 1950s. The opposite was true for Europe, and the presence of microcars is a perfect example. The Times heard, “These automobiles were a reaction to desperate conditions,” from Peter Svilans who’s a microcar historian. The front of the auto of the Italian Isetta had egg shaped doors for entry when the German Messerschmitt KR-175 had three wheels at first. These style touches fascinated most auto enthusiasts around. Near Atlanta you are able to visit the Bruce Weiner Microcar Museum. This museum shows just how amazing these microcars really are.

Weiner has been collecting microcars since 1991. Microcars are hard to discover, he told the Times.

“With microcars, you don’t just show up with a wad of cash and say sell it to me,” he said. “In Europe, they mean something more. It’s like you showing up and asking me to sell my dad’s watch.”

Microcars are not playthings

It is true that microcars look like they are just children’s playthings but larger. This is not at all true though. Modern crash safety standards are not in any of these cars although the vehicles can go super fast, like the French Rovin Z-4. A microcar has hardly any crumple zone. If you crashed with the vehicle, the collision would cause nearly all of the force to be transferred to the driver’s body.

Monetary wealth killed the microcar

Automotive mass production took place much more often after Europe begun recovering from the economic hardships of the mid 20th century. By the early 1960s, safer, more powerful Volkswagen, Renault and Fiat automobiles started to appear in greater numbers. The “small wonder” that is microcars became increasingly obsolete. The Messerschmitt museum, and others like it, are the only reason anyone even knows about microcars today. Today, only 50 KR-175s are known to exist.

Rogue Burger - Rogue States Burgers required to move out of DuPont

In a lawful controversy that has pitted burgers against lawyers, Washington, D.C., burger shop Rogue States Burgers has been required to shut down. While the controversy sounds a bit crazy, the law firm that sued had a case a judge found genuine. There is already a new location for Rogue States Burgers within the works, though. Source for this article – Rogue Burger – Rogue States Burgers forced to move out of DuPont by Personal Money Store.

The Rogue Burger odor

The argument of the Rogue States Burgers v. Steptoe and Johnson case have been left on the table. The D.C. Superior Court has heard them all. The huge law firm really does not like Rogue States Burgers. In fact, “nuisance” had been the expression used to describe the place. The exhaust system for Rogue States is next to the air intake system for Steptoe and Johnson’s offices. The resulting odor in the law offices caused “headaches, nausea, dizziness, watery and itchy eyes and distraction.”

The response from Rogue States Burger

Since the “Rogue Burger” lawsuit was filed, Rogue States Burgers tried to change things. In fact, they did what they could to stop the exhaust system from having the terrible odor come out. New air scrubbers were installed, and employees were trained in reducing the fumes. Rogue States Burgers asked the owner if the exhaust system could possibly be re-routed, however the landlord denied the question.

Rogue States Burgers forced to move

A decision on the lawsuit over Rogue States Burgers’ smell came down on Tuesday afternoon – and it had been swift and severe. More or less, Rogue States Burgers can have to shut down operations. This is because the judgment was that fumes have to be stopped by 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. It is not terrible for many who love the DuPont Circle burger joint. Rogue States Burgers could be moving someplace else. The owner already signed another lease. As he admitted under oath, the business of Rogue States Burgers can be relocating to 1931 14th St. NW.

Michelle Rhee quits from D.C. Schools

Rather than face off with a new mayor who likely won’t support her ideas about education reform, Chancellor of D.C. Public Schools has chosen to resign. According to the Boston Globe, Michelle Rhee’s resignation had been a “mutual” decision made by herself and newly elected Mayor Vincent Gray. Rhee’s term could be served until at least the end of the current school year by Deputy Chancellor Kaya Henderson, suggests the Washington Post.

Rhee questioned the teachers’ union

Before Michele Rhee showed up, the District of Columbia public schools always had very low test scores. Educational facilities got much better with Rhee working to them. She made sure teachers either started to do much better or got fired. The amount of teacher firings in Washington, D.C., schools earned Rhee numerous enemies, primarily those who supported the teachers’ union and tenure system. The school systems got used to the teachers that were there for more than three years. It’s this that the Innovative Education Management explains. Firing under-performing, tenured teachers required a large burden of proof. A lot of the teachers did not worry about putting forth effort within the classroom. This was because there was a significant amount of job security for them.

It seems that ‘Unions can smell blood’

Kaya Henderson could be in charge of the schools now that Rhee has resigned. She is going to have for making sure and keep up the tough act. ”The unions can smell blood,” though. This is what the Globe explains. Henderson is expected to be “gone by Christmas.” Also, tenure will continue and all the teaching talent in the D.C. public schools will probably go elsewhere in the near future.

The investment plans that foundations made giving the D.C. educational facilities fast money because Michelle Rhee had been there will probably all be changed. D.C. Schools might be on the road to recovery, however some critics say even Rhee’s drive and focus were unable to produce results, and if Rhee can’t do it, who can? Mayor Gray supports the D.C. teachers union which means anybody who wants an education reform might not see it. D.C. educational facilities are being told to be more about getting stuff done. The American public schools lost another person who could have helped. She had been a good reformer.

The true price of a pack of cigarettes

Smoking is a relatively expensive and unequivocally dangerous habit, but few individuals know the true cost of a pack of smokes, reports the European science blog Lab Spaces. According to Spain’s Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), an average €3 to €4 pack ($ 4.18 to $ 5.57, approximately) actually costs €107 ($ 149) for men and €75 ($ 105) for women. And just how UPCT determined those numbers states a lot about those who choose to conserve money and not puff their lives away.

Passing away early is what cigarettes cost you

Angel Lopez Nicolas, a UPCT researcher, explained that “The price one pays for each pack of cigarettes at a newsstand is only a really small price of the true price that smokers pay for their habit.” Tobacco use raises the risk of death in smokers, and there are real mortality expenses associated. The Vale of a Statistical Live (VSL) is exactly what is used as the metric. This metric analyzes what the cost-benefits are. Based on Lopez Nicolas, there is a price that smokers are “prepared to pay in order to lower their risk of passing away.” The price for smokers is €3.78 million ($ 5.26 million) and is €2.91 million ($ 4.05 million) for non-smokers.

Next Lopez explains, “one must not confuse the cost of premature death with the price of healthcare. The cost of early passing away is borne by the smokers themselves.” That’s a cost no payday advance or similar short term personal loan could adequately cover.

What cigarette smoking will cost you

Factors like taxes and anti-smoking legislation as it applies in public areas are considered to be optimistic self-control devices for smokers. There is a study with the UPCT. It weighs the benefits of smoking deterrence and the deficit that comes with “well-being losses.” It was discovered the decrease of well-being had been too good and outweighed the benefits greatly.

Spokane used automobiles at greater risk than new cars

Spokane used vehicles are the most at risk for theft compared to new vehicles. That goes nationwide, not just for Spokane cars. Automobile thieves are really somewhat discerning. They don’t universally steal new and shiny vehicles just off the lot. Thieves do steal some high autos, such as luxury SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade and substantial end pickups. The most frequently stolen vehicles are small vehicles that are everywhere. Nevertheless, don’t let that deter anyone heading to a Spokane automobile dealership. Just be prudent and use common sense.

There’s a fairly high rate of auto theft at Eastern Washington

The common belief is that eastern Washington tends to be just farmland. That is not really all that true. The region is home to large metropolitan areas. There are more than 100,000 people in the Tri-Cities, which has Kennewick, Richland and Pasco in it, Yakima and Spokane. The Seattle Times accounts that automobile theft in Spokane and Yakima are both within the top 20 percent. Any Washington city on the list of car theft hot spots is troubling, as New York City has about the exact same population as the entire state of Washington. The ranking for theft of vehicles Spokane, WA, was 18th nationally, and Yakima was ranked sixth in 2009 by the National Insurance Crime Bureau.

Theft means greater requirement for caution

Robbery ratings don’t mean that cities are unsafe. Spokane and Yakima are both places you might want to visit. Just like any metropolitan area, common sense should be employed. Some vehicles have much more threat than others. Small sedans tent to be the automobiles that thieves like to steal within the Spokane area, based on the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Any Honda Accords and Civics made before 1995 are likely to be stolen in Washington state. In Washington state, most cars that get thieved are older. The 10 most stolen have at least 15 years worn on them.

Not a shocker

Probably the most often stolen cars are cars that are seen everywhere. Typically they are pretty small too. The vehicle is not actually what most thieves are going for. They want the parts inside the car. So when looking into auto credit, Spokane or Yakima depending, to buy a previously owned vehicle, just use just a little caution.

Underbanked get new online lending choice with ZestCash

A former Google executive is bringing what he learned at the search motor giant to internet financing for the underbanked with ZestCash. ZestCash online personal loan of up to $500 became available in Utah starting Wed. The business said it will use information, Google-style, to minimize risk and maximize benefits for its customers.

A different internet lending approach

Previous Google CIO and VP of engineering Douglas Merrill had been the person who founded ZestCash. ZestCash customers, based on TechCrunch, get to choose how much cash, up to $500, they want to borrow and how long to pay it back it is going to take. The term of a loan is chosen by the consumer with a little help from the ZestCash website. It shows how a weekly payment is affected by time on the site. The financial loans don’t have to be paid all at once meaning smaller installments are made. If a customer gets a loan online, they also are provided with other details. This is a full payment schedule so they can expect their accounts to be withdrawn from by the company. ZestCash also pledges to be flexible with individual borrowers about late payments.

Lending Google-style

ZestCash is entering a huge and growing sector. The Center for Responsible Lending explains that financial loans are usually taken out by lots of people. In fact, 12 million individuals take out loans each year. About $20 billion in loans was given from the payday advance industry this past year. The FDIC shows that 18 percent of households within the United States of America are underbanked. That means 60 million people do not have a relationship with a bank that would allow them to borrow a bank’s funds. Merrill told Reuters that ZestCash will use “Google-style data” to help customers only take out loans they can afford. Millions of individuals who could not ever afford credit will start to be able to determine it with the Google technology being applied to loan underwriting, he states.

Loans are more satisfied with information crushing

The no credit check risk that payday advance corporations are taking are how the fees on the financial loans are determined. The online lending industry might be transformed by the “Google-like information crunching way” that ZestCash will start using, says Quentin Hardy at Forbes. Hardy spoke with Merrill about this. Merrill said that ZestCash utilizes “research in economics, math and computer science” in order for making decisions. Data could be gathered via phone calls, customer questionnaires and information scraped from the web by ZestCash engineers. In true Google fashion, Merrill said “we believe all data is useful credit data.”

Ironically California Highway Patrol weren't who busted Larry Wilcox

Irony is rife as previous TV cop from “CHiPs” Larry Wilcox is busted by the authorities. It was not for anything traffic related. A motorcycle was not even involved. He was really busted by federal agents. The FBI and Securities and Exchange Commission were the agencies involved. Wilcox became more intensely involved in entrepreneurial ventures after “CHiPs” and his acting career wound down. He is charged with stock fraud by the SEC. Source of article – Larry Wilcox ironically not busted by state patrol by Personal Money Store.

SEC gets a chip on the shoulder from Larry Wilcox

To make the money he needed, Larry Wilcox did more than just acting. One of his most recent ventures, UC Hub Group Inc., attracted the attention of the SEC and also the FBI. He is being charged with a kickback scheme on more than just this business. The SEC alleges that the company, along with others, would give kickbacks to pension fund managers and stock brokers to purchase its stock. We have not received any comments from the “CHIPs” star from the late 70s, Larry Wilcox. Two other penny stock executives were allegedly part of the whole thing also. This is what the Los Angeles Times reports.

Fake cop caught by real cops

The scheme was uncovered various months ago. A sting operation had been put in place to catch the kickback scheme in the act. Both the FBI and SEC put undercover agents in there to try to find fraud schemes before the business run by Larry Wilcox had been found. According to the SEC, there had been only one flaw in the scheme. That flaw was that they forgot about the possibility of undercover agents. Wilcox, one of 12 individuals charged, will face 5 to 25 years in prison, according to CNN.

Don’t pass “go” or collect your money

Former co-star Erik Estrada, who starred as Wilcox’s partner Ponch on “CHiPs,” has not yet commented. White collar crimes may seem innocent enough. They do come with a prison sentence though. Still no details has come about Larry Wilcox’s sentence. We’ll have to wait and find out what happens.

Westboro Baptist Church faces significant hate speech decision

Fred Phelps and the congregation of Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church have proved that they’re willing to actively protest Marine memorials as an expression of their faith. And also the Supreme Court may have something to say about that, writes The Baltimore Sun. The Supreme Court is deliberating as to whether the Westboro Baptist Church’s protest of a 2006 memorial for an Iraq war veteran veered into hate speech territory, and whether the family of the deceased solider is due a previously awarded (but later rescinded) monetary award for invasion of privacy and emotional distress. Resource for this article – Westboro Baptist Church faces major hate speech decisio by Personal Money Store.

Baptist Church’s act in Westboro being labeled hate speech

Deceased soldier’s father Albert Snyder attended his memorial on March 3, 2006. The Westboro Baptist Church protesters weren’t seen at the memorial however he saw them on Television following the funeral was over. Signs declaring things like “Thank God for dead soldiers,” were what the Westboro protesters had when protesting throughout the memorial at the St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Westminster, Md.. The Marine served for a “permissive” govt which is what the attack was all about. The Sun reports that the Westboro Baptist Church attacks the Marine who died, his family along with the catholic faith. This is done on a website that is kept up by Phelps’ daughter, Shirley Phelps-Roger.

Lawsuit towards Westboro due to invasion of privacy and emotional distress

Snyder sued Westboro Baptist Church on the grounds of intentional infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy. The jury followed the judge in Baltimore who said that Westboro’s actions were really offensive and inappropriate. The award was only $5 million instead of the $11 million that was requested. The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said that the Westboro Baptist Church’s messages were protected by freedom of dialog in 2009 which changed the Baltimore verdict.

Now the Supreme Court is listening to Albert Snyder’s appeal. Oral arguments are being heard today. A decision on whether a “private figure” can sue if he is a “target of hateful speech” will come soon, writes the Sun.

Sonata and Bavarian Motor Works 5 series take top grades in crash tests

This year’s crash test ratings have just been released. The newest standards are officially implemented. The new scoring system is a 5 star rating. A five star rating was only awarded to two cars. The BMW 5 series and also the Hyundai Sonata were the only cars that got five stars within the assessments. This round of assessments was for 34 different models, and it integrated a new sliding side impact.

Collision test standards being renewed

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration came out and changed some things. The crash test rating system was one of these things. The scale used to go 1 to 4. Now it goes all the way up to five. Today was the end of the first round of screening. This is what USA Today reports. The first round of testing had numerous vehicles. About 34 cars were part of it. There can be a second round of screening soon. 22 much more automobiles could be in this. The new rating system changes other things. Criteria is going to be stricter as well. A new test is being added also. Side collision when skidding can be tested. The NHTSA decided crash avoidance systems needed to be tested too. One of these tested was the electronic stability control. Earlier standards should be compared to new standards. This is suggested by the NHTSA.

Top scores come from Bavarian Motor Works and Hyundai Motors

There were only two five-star crash tested vehicles. The Hyundai Sonata got a perfect five-star collision assessment. The only other auto to get that was the Bavarian Motor Works 5 series. Only three cars got less than a 4 also. The Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid were the only two cars to get a three-star rating. Last year the Camry did the best. It got the highest scores available. The Nissan Versa received the lowest score of two. Four out of five stars was given to the other cars.

Much more cars to assessment

This only the initial round of assessments. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration plans to do collision assessments for about 22 more automobiles. The entire list is accessible from the govt at Safercar.gov for those interested in checking out the ratings before they purchase.

Growing weed means Howard Arenstein got busted

Katz and Arenstein, a high-powered journalistic couple, were both imprisoned for cannabis production and sale over the weekend. Arenstein and Katz both work as reporters. Katz is the Washington correspondent for an Israeli newspaper. Arenstein, on the other hand, is the CBS Radio chief in D.C. Vice squad law enforcement officers imprisoned both people when they discovered prepared marijuana in their house.

Vice police officers police arrest Arenstein

Police got a complaint from neighbors about the Arenstein home. On the basis of this complaint, they obtained and used a search warrant. Both Arenstein and Katz were charged with possession with intent to distribute. No bail was required for Arenstein and Katz. They were released shortly after being charged. D.C. law allows them to wait for their trial while outside of lockup. Katz and Arenstein could be fined for the marijuana in their home. They could also face a few years in jail for the weed discovered in their home.

Cannabis bust at Arenstein’s home

The Saturday morning raid at Howard Arenstein’s home was carried out by vice police after neighbors complained about the growing marijuana. 11 mature, eight foot tall marijuana plants were discovered in the back yard. When executing the search warrant, police also found 12 ounces of marijuana, packaged in six two-ounce bags. The intent to distribute charge is based on the small packages of controlled substances found.

Columbia Broadcasting System News investigation into Howard Arenstein

CBS News officials have declined to officially comment on Howard Arenstein’s arrest. Reports from the New York Post say that an internal investigation into the matter is being launched, however. Simply being charged with the crimes may not be enough for Arenstein or Katz to lose their jobs. D.C. doesn’t have a medical cannabis law, which indicates there is no lawful recourse for the couple.

Massive prizes and three ways to win at McDonald's Monopoly this year

McDonald’s paired up yet again with Hasbro for this year’s Monopoly game. The more linked to the web you are, the more chances you’ve to win with McDonald’s Monopoly. McDonald’s stores carry the Monopoly 2010 playing pieces. A code is listed on every playing piece, though, could be entered in the internet gameplay. Source of article – McDonalds Monopoly 2010 kicks off October 5 by Personal Money Store.

McDonald’s Monopoly this year brings millions in prizes

According to McDonald’s and Hasbro, the McDonald’s Monopoly 2010 game will award about $ 200 million in cash and prizes. Between internet play and in-store game pieces, one-quarter of the game pieces will have some kind of prize. The majority of the prizes aren’t cash, but some kind of product. There are big prizes. The chance of winning them, though, is small. McDonald’s merchandise have game pieces attached to the packaging. McDonald’s Monopoly has been a promotion run since 1987.

Link your online life with McDonald’s Monopoly

If you want to play the game, you are able to write McDonald’s for free pieces, but most of them are on food packaging. If you do not win in-store, you have other possibilities. This year, each piece’s code could be entered online for a second chance at winning. When anybody wins one of the bigger awards, it will be announced. Follow McDonald’s on Twitter or Facebook for the urgent updates. There will be a “heatmap” on the McDonald’s website. This is based on the individuals checking into McDonald’s stores on Foursquare. Registering online is required. You could use text messaging or online entry for even more prizes.

Using Monopoly for real cash at McDonald’s

McDonald’s Monopoly pieces are almost always bought and sold to complete collections. Though it may or may not make financial sense, some people will pay to complete their McDonald’s Monopoly prize set. You’ll probably spend more money in McDonald’s food than you would win. The 2010 McDonald’s Monopoly has exactly one $ 1 million prize. In any game of chance, it is easy to spend too much. Play moderately, and McDonald’s Monopoly this year could pay off for you.

Bavarian Motor Works recalls 350,000 cars because of brake issue

Bavarian Motor Works recalls 350,000 vehicles because of brake issue

BMW has announced that it is recalling over 350,000 BMW and Rolls-Royce automobiles throughout the world because of issues with power braking assist. BMW 5- through 7-Series and Rolls-Royce Phantom models built between 2002 and 2010 make up the BMW recall. The Bavarian Motor Works 5-Series sedan isn’t incorporated within the BMW recall 2010, notes Frank Strebe, BMW spokesman.

Bavarian Motor Works recall taking place due to the power brake product having issues

According to Bloomberg, some BMW and Rolls-Royce drivers with higher-mileage automobiles found that they have to push harder on the brake pedal than normal in order to come to a stop. This occurs because of a loss of vacuum pressure in the brake pump, which is brought on by leakage within the power brake assist module.

While no accidents or injuries have been connected to the power brake problem yet, BMW is encouraging customers to take proactive steps to remedy the issue. Owners may also be notified of the BMW recall via first-class mail within the next few weeks. Ultimately, owners can bring their cars back to the dealership for free repairs – which Strebe estimates will take anywhere from two hours to at most half a day. Bavarian Motor Works Consumer Relations are accessible for contact at 800-525-7417 and at customer.relations@bmwna.com if you need more info on North American BMW.

Cash gone from BMW

Bavarian Motor Works does not know how much the power brake product repairs will cost after offering free repair to all Bavarian Motor Works recall customers. Since August 12, BMW has had the largest mid-day stock which is about 3.3 percent accounts Bloomberg.

The recall consists of specific BMW/Rolls-Royce vehicles

  • 2002-08 BMW 745i/Li, 750i/Li, and 760i/Li
  • 2007-08 BMW Alpina B7
  • The 2004-10 BMW 645i and 650i
  • Then the 2004-10 BMW 545i and 550i also
  • 2003-2010 Rolls-Royce Phantom models

Breast Cancer awareness month comes with the dawning of October. Taking the time to reflect and further the search for a way to spare others from the ravages of the disease is what the occasion is all about. Knowing the breast cancer facts and breast cancer myths can be invaluable.

Breast cancer Awareness Month details

According to American Cancer Society estimates, in 2009 there were 192,370 brand new cases of invasive cancer of the breast and 62,280 early-stage breast cancer diagnosed in women. Over 40,000 of those were considered to be life threatening. Also, 2,000 men were diagnosed with cancer of the breast last year. Of those, about 440 were forecasted to die.

Common cancer of the breast misconceptions

  • Underwire bras promote breast cancer growth

The false belief here is that by constricting breast tissue, underwire bras trigger cancer-causing toxins to build up. Dr. Deborah Axelrod explains to Columbia Broadcasting System that this isn’t actually true.

  • Breast cancer could be caused by something else. This is deodorant

Dr. Schnabel explains that this also is not true. There have not even been studies that link cancer of the breast with antiperspirant and cancer.

  • Plastic water bottles cause breast cancer

There is a debate on whether or not a cancer-causing dioxin is leaked into the water by sitting in plastic water bottles, although there isn’t a consensus. There isn’t a connection between BPA (bisphenol) and cancer of the breast although some believe that it leaks to the water from the plastic also.

  • Cancer of the breast can come from tests. Mammograms to be specific

Dr. Schnabel tells CBS News the amount of radiation (.1 to .2 rads per picture) released in a mammogram is equal to or less than what a woman’s breasts are exposed to naturally over a three-month period.

  • Lumpy breasts always mean greater risk

A woman won’t be getting cancer of the breast because of lumpy breasts although it can be more difficult to detect with lumpy breasts. A doctor should investigate if you discover new breast lumps, reports Dr. Axelrod, as it could mean cancer.

  • No history of breast cancer makes you safe

80 percent of breast cancer is sporadic, although it can trace via a family also.

Drivers keep text messaging while driving in spite of restrictions

In an effort to cut down on car crashes, a number of states have banned texting while driving. Yet a new study shows a different approach may be needed. In states with text messaging when driving restrictions, auto accidents did not decrease. In some states the number of crashes really increased. A major initiative against texting when driving is being implemented by the DOT. It is no wonder the head of the agency called the study misleading. Traffic safety experts have said that whether or not the laws are effective depend on adequate enforcement. Some who disagree think the regulations contribute further to the problem. To avoid being seen by police, text messaging motorists make use of ever much more hazardous practices.

Text messaging driving remains

Traffic deaths connected to texting drivers, as a study released by the American Journal of Public Health found, jumped by 16,000 within the years 2001-’07. But ABC News reports that researchers at the Highway Loss Data Institute found no reduction in auto accidents after texting while driving laws were enacted. The conclusions were drawn by comparing the rate of accidents and claims on insurance in California, Louisiana, Minnesota and Washington prior to and following the passage of texting when driving bans. A perceptible increase in crashes emerged in three states.

Driving restriction may motivate more risky text messaging

Most would believe that texting behind the wheel is irresponsible. But declaring bans alone will not make the streets safer, as the study indicates. The Christian Science Monitor reports that in all four states within the study, crashes increased among motorists 25 and under– the age group most associated with texting when driving. The researchers suggested the law compels texting drivers to hold their phones lower to stay away from being seen, which significantly increases the level of diversion. Ray Lahood, secretary of the Transportation Department, criticized the study. He released a statement saying research showed that distracted driving laws could reduce crashes. A ban on text messaging alone does nothing to cut back accidents, according to Adrian Lund, president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, who points out that numerous other factors contribute to distracted driving.

Alternative solutions to simply passing laws

Law or no law, Americans are going to text while driving. Jared Newman at PC World thinks technology is a better solution than laws that are ignored. Existing options consist of text message dictation apps for instance Google Voice for Android and Dragon Dictation for the iPhone. Automobile innovations like MyFord Touch, he writes, let drivers keep their eyes and also the road and their hands on the wheel as they use their phones. Helping make the public more aware of these technology options could do much more to reduce collisions, rather than passing laws that are largely ignored.

Shortly, the littlest of Ford Trucks will be the F150

Ford sells more full size pickup trucks than any company. Ford has been for a really long time. The F150 has been the best selling full size pickup for a when, and for a reason. There have been other truck models that have sold well in the past. The Ranger was popular in its day, however the model is being retired. Also retiring is the only other truck made by Ford, the Sport Trac. All brands and cars under the Ford banner are being done away with, and soon only the F series will stay.

Sport Trac will cease to remain

By the end of October, 2010, Ford won’t make one more Sport Trac, as outlined by the Courier-Journal. The model is being retired, after performing dismally the last few years. The Sport Trac has a cult following, however not enough to justify continued manufacture. After holding steady at 60,000 units sold from 2000 to 2005, sales kept dropping. Fewer than 6,000 have been sold so far this year. Trucks smaller than full size are down as a total market segment, making up only two percent of sales for the entire auto industry. Though the models cost less at the dealership than the F150, it would cost more to keep making the Ranger and also the Sport Trac. The F150 out performs them in sales too well.

Clearing out the cobwebs

Brands and models that do not sell are facing the firing line. Ford will offer less than 30 different models worldwide, according to Automotive News. In 2006, Ford offered 97. Ford has additionally been selling off brands it had acquired. Jaguar, Volvo, Aston Martin, and Land Rover all belong to someone else now. Mercury will stop existing at the end of the year.

Slim and mean

Ford is not going to waste cash on making automobiles that don’t sell. The business is making some other changes. Vehicles will even me sharing more parts in common. The Fiesta, which has 10 versions offered worldwide, shares 65 percent of its parts with other Ford automobiles. Ford is also getting rid of pickups that do not sell. After next year, the smallest pickup Ford will offer is the F150, and also the company can be emphasizing the turbo V6.

Author believes that mankind gets messages through nuclear locations with UFO sightings

UFOs tampering with nuclear weapons is a crazy idea. But a group of former Air Force personnel swear that UFOs have been keeping an eye on mankind’s nuclear arsenal for the past 60 years. The National Press Club had some interesting visitors telling their stories on Monday. UFO researcher and writer Robert Hastings decided he wanted to get together anybody who was a UFO eyewitness. Earth may be getting a message with all of these UFO sightings, Hastings said, as aliens have noticed nuclear weapons facilities and also the difficulties with humanity.

Nuclear weaponry get the no go from the Unidentified Flying Objects

The United States government needs to acknowledge that UFO visits have happened, says Hastings who was the one who organized the National Press Club News conference. CNN reports that three of the men–former Air Force officers–hadn’t seen the UFOs themselves, however told reporters that in 1967, Unidentified Flying Objects hovering over missile silos near Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana appeared to temporarily deactivate some of the nuclear weaponry. Over 120 previous military personal have seen Unidentified Flying Objects over nuclear areas, claims Hastings. He believes extraterrestrial beings had taken an interest in the nuclear arms race and were sending a communication that humans are “playing with fire.”.

The UFOs even used Soviet nukes

Apparently UFO sightings over nuclear weapons sites aren’t limited to the United States of America The very same thing was taking place within the Soviet Union, Hastings told AOL News. This is shown in KGB declassified files it had. Hastings said last June, a major Russian newspaper, Life, published accounts of a UFO sighting at a nuclear missile site on Oct. 4, 1982, within the Ukraine. A UFO hovered over the site. Missiles were instantly deactivated. There was a lot of panic. The missiles came back after a few seconds. There aren’t many individuals that have come forward because of the fear of losing their careers, AOL heard Previous Air Force Col. Charles Halt say as an eyewitness to an Unidentified Flying Object encounter as a deputy base commander in Britain. The Air Force was hoping to stop public panic or keep alien contact secret by successfully killing the UFO story by “making it so ridiculous that everybody laughs when they hear it.”

The situation is not talked about with Project Blue Book

An Air Force program called Project Blue Book investigated UFOs from 1948 to 1969. Project Blue Book concluded after this time. The conclusion was that “no Unidentified Flying Object reported, investigated and evaluated by the Air Force has ever given any indication of threat to our national security.” Hastings made a statement at the National Press Club. This statement was that aliens only bother the close-minded when thinking about it. “I don’t think humankind is in jeopardy from whoever they’re or whichever they are, except that we can have our minds expanded. Traditional institutions for instance religions, governments and other social institutions may be confronted by what is coming. That is just the logical consequence of what is about to occur.”

Unions stage massive protests against European austerity

Saying “no” to austerity, Europeans marched in cities around the continent Wednesday to demonstration government cutbacks in social systems and increased taxes meant to lift countries out of the European debt crisis. Europeans are upset that while governments spent billions to rescue banks, ordinary citizens were being forced to accept the consequences of austerity. As the protests raged, a U.S. government representative seemed to side with the demonstrators. The representative, a top United States of America Treasury official, said it was too early within the recovery for European governing bodies to abandon stimulus and embrace austerity.

Austerity gets a lot of awareness

A day of austerity demonstrations was shown all throughout Europe on Wednesday. There was a march across Europe with hundreds of thousands of people. As outlined by Reuters, trade unions were those who started the protests, and they say the poorest of citizens could be hurt probably the most through the austerity that will slow the economic recovery. 12 European capitals had protests in them organized by trade unions in order to say they did not like the concept of spending cuts and pension and labor market reforms. Banners were waving in Brussels, Belgium saying “No to austerity” and “Priority to jobs and growth” with a gathered crowd of 60,000 in Europe.

Austerity focuses on social programs

There is one major reason that the austerity demonstrations in Brussels are happening. It is because member states with high joblessness are running up deficits to fund their cultural systems which lead the European Union Commission to come up with the proposal of penalizing these member states. The Huffington Post reports that the EU proposal is something that Germany supports the most. Of course, that means the country of France disagrees with it. France doesn’t like the idea of strict rules deciding things and thinks that is should really just be sanctions. Elsewhere in Europe, Greek doctors and railway employees walked out. Spanish workers shut down trains and buses. One man in Ireland used a cement truck to demonstration. He was protesting the financial institution bailouts within the country by blocking Irish parliament.

United States explains austerity is not supporting Europe much

European officials were told to slow down a little through the demonstrations by a top United States Treasury official going to Frankfurt. The Wall Street Journal reports that Americans and Europeans disagree about whether stimulus or austerity is the solution to a weak global recovery. The United States of America firmly believes that a stimulus will work the best. Europe disagrees making more and more spending cuts and increases in taxes. U.S. Treasury Undersecretary for International Affairs Lael Brainard said with weak global demand and low inflation, supporting a lasting recovery, not austerity, must continue as the primary objective.

President Obama terror attack comments disappoint Cheney

It isn’t hard to look back and acknowledge how hard Sept 11th was for the U.S. Family and friends of those who perished were devastated. Not only that, however history books show every person in the country on the time to be hurt by it. There are people worried about a comment created by Obama. He makes it seem like September 11th was no big deal. President Obama really offended Liz Cheney in his comment. She angrily replied to it. Source of article – Liz Cheney criticizes President Obama terror attack statements by Newystype.com.

What was the comment produced by President Obama?

President Obama explained how he felt about the September 11th terrorist attack, along with all of other terrorist attacks. President Obama was quoted by Bob Woodward in his book, “Obama Wars,” saying:

We can absorb a terrorist attack. We’ll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, the biggest attack ever… we absorbed it and we are stronger.”

Liz Cheney, daughter of Dick Cheney, got really mad at the statement being made.

What did Cheney state?

Liz Cheney was outraged by this statement on the part of President Obama. She felt like The United States is in danger with Obama in control. He will not be using all of his power and resources to protect The United States like he should. She called for an explanation from Obama about this.

CBS News reports her saying:

Americans expect our President to…use everyeach tool at his disposal to find, defeat, capture and kill terrorists. We expect him to…make it clear to our adversaries that an attack on the United States will carry devastating consequences. Instead, President Obama is reported to have said, ‘We can absorb a terrorist attack.’ This comment suggests an alarming fatalism on the part of President Obama… The President owes the American people an explanation.

A conclusion is needed by more people

Several other individuals would like a conclusion to the Obama terror attack statement that was made. 12 News has Bilal wondering why the president would even think about making a comment like that. He was one more one concerned about what exactly was said. He wanted to know why the president would not be doing every little thing he can to protect America. Many others are wondering why the President would be egging on terrorists to come to the country. Since Cheney, and other people, love to criticize the Obama administration, Mitch Marconi thinks it is all just an overreaction. Either way, some kind of explanation is expected from Obama within the near future.

Hype around brand new Wall Street film just as big as the original

For months, the buzz over the newest “Wall Street” movie has been extreme. It’s been a big topic for months. Enthusiasts of the original are waiting in the wings for “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”. The original movie was released not long after the stock market crash within the 1980s. The real estate crash of 2008 is the inspiration for the new film, as Michael Douglas returns to his Oscar winning role as Gordon Gekko. There is a popular thread in both films. Unbridled greed and unethical dealings within the realm of high finance leading to disaster.

'Wall Street’ for a new generation

The sequel to the original film takes place in the immediate wake of the housing crash of 2008. The beginning of the film is the release of Gordon Gekko, notorious corporate raider and insider trader, from prison. It is assumed that he went to jail following the end of the first film. Gekko is a legendary character, as it garnered generations of enthusiasts and an Oscar for Michael Douglas. Gekko, earning a living by giving lectures to students, is enlisted by his estranged daughters’ fiancĂ©, played by Shia LaBeouf, to bring about a corrupt hedge fund managers’ ruin. It is partly a story of sabotage of the wicked. However, the film, nicknamed but not really titled “Wall Street 2,” is also a story of redemption.

The real Wall Street

The movie is just a movie. Most people on Wall Street really get that. A post in the Wall Street Journal by Martin Fridson opines that the film captured popular outrage, however that it ignores real causes of the 2008 crash. On the ABC site, a corporate lawyer who works on Wall Street also opined that the movie is great entertainment, but little more than that. Dramatic portrayals of historic events often leave out crucial information, for the sake of sensation. The film really employed a fair number of Wall Street insiders as technical advisors. A couple of have lamented that Stone did not treat on the complexities of the market well enough in the movie.

Poor examples can ruin the group

There is some truth in the clichĂ© that a bad apple ruins a bundle. It is kind of a shame. Actual Wall Street traders and administrators are not the evil hounds they are made out to be. In fact, the majority is highly ethical and work incredibly hard. However, “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” isn’t about them.
