Hiccup girl Jennifer Mee arrested for homicide

Jennifer Mee, a former news sensation because of her continuous hiccups which earned her the nickname the “Hiccup Girl,” has been imprisoned on allegations of 1st degree murder. Mee, only 19, was arrested with two accomplices in a homicide. They are accused of robbing a man at gunpoint and killing him. Various years ago, Mee became an overnight media sensation. She had weeks of constant hiccupping. She had been on “Today Show,” among others, and also had been popular on the web for some time.

Mee arrested for homicide

Jennifer Mee had been arrested in Florida on suspicion of first degree murder along with two others arrested for the crime, based on MSNBC. Shannon Griffin was supposedly lured to a place by Mee, 19, Laron Raiford, 20, and Lamont Newton, 22. He had been at gunpoint. This is how Raiford and Newton robbed him. After taking things from the man, a scuffle ensued and Griffin had been shot numerous times, mostly in the upper torso. All three have admitted to being involved with the crime. Jennifer Mee and her accomplices are being charged under the felony murder statute, in which an accomplice to a crime which ends in murder is kept accountable for the murder as well. Being convicted could possibly be bad for them. They might end up with the death penalty as the punishment.

Being called ‘Hiccup Girl’

Jennifer Mee is quite well known nationally. “The Hiccup Girl” is her nickname. One time, a girl ended up with hiccups for five weeks. This had been Jennifer Mee. Every day, she would hiccup 50 times a minute. Obviously the media would be interested in this. Her and others who were becoming nationally known were shown on the “Today Show” in 2007. WTSP News in Tampa explains that she talked to specialists who said that it had been just Tourette’s Syndrome. The medication for Tourette’s helped her. She seemed cured.

Trial awaits

All three defendants have admitted to being involved in the crime, and are being kept without bail. If all three are convicted, they can be sentenced to death under the felony murder statute. At least a life sentence will be what they face without a parole possibility. This is if felony homicide is what they are convicted of.
