Robotic Air-Powered Hand with Elastic Ligaments

A team of young science students studying at Virginia Tech's Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory have designed a wonderful and functional robotic arm which can hold an egg. They have called this robotic hand RAPHaEL or Robotic Air-Powered Hand with Elastic Ligaments. It is very flexible and strong. An operator can operate its finger joints by controlling air pressure. This robotic hand is fixed to a compressed air tank. There is no requirement to manipulate individual finger separately. All finger joints can be moved by one motion activator. This robotic hand will be available in the market at low price rate. RAPHAeEL has bagged the Compressed Air and Gas Institute's Innovation Awards for the years of 2008-09. According to the experts, this highly modernized robot will be helpful to assist scientists to probe the different areas of the research in near future.
