There had been MacGruber movie rumors for a while, and now it is in theaters. The parody of MacGyver by Saturday Night Live has not been a hit with critics so far, but it has been a fan favorite. It will be competing at the box office with the fourth and final installment of the Shrek franchise, Shrek Forever After. The reviews for both have been lukewarm.

MacGruber blows up the big screen
After numerous appearances on television, including some famous Super Bowl spots, MacGruber is finally hitting the big screen. It will compete for box office quick payday with a film starring an SNL alumnus, that being Mike Meyers. MacGruber is a send up of 1980s action heroes, complete with a mullet. Granted, the target audience may be too young to remember MacGyver, or John Carpenter's masterpiece They Live. Kurt Loder is not amused, though the Rotten Tomatoes page on MacGruber gives it a rating slightly over 50 percent.
Shrek Forever After will do, donkey
Shrek Forever After is the fourth Shrek film, and it can be the last. Rotten Tomatoes has bestowed a 51 percent Fresh rating, which is not very flattering, but it is a sequel. Sequels can effortlessly deflate a series, though some franchises are just lame in the crib to start with (Transformers, for example.) However, it would appear that this final installment has one thing going for it, which is 3D. It might be at least interesting visually.
Survey says
We’ve all seen the MacGruber trailers and TV spots, so we know what we’re getting. It will be amusing, though not exactly a brainy film. SNL movies are rarely very good. Shrek, like numerous other movies out these days, is using the 3D as its main selling point. Something can look great, but if it's a lousy movie, it’s nevertheless a lousy movie. Many people think 3D makes anything great, but it can end up to be pouring perfume on a pig.
