Each year, numerous agencies, foundations, and publications hand out automotive honors. Auto of the year honors are especially prized. No real consensus really exists for what constitutes a true vehicle of the year, but that does not stop awards from being bestowed. Green vehicles seem to be topping most lists for Vehicle of the year.
Volt may be the automobile of the year
The Chevrolet Volt and the Nissan Leaf are both green automobiles obtaining Vehicle of the year award attention as they are both envisioned. The Auto of the year award at the Los Angeles Auto Show was the Volt. This is what Wired reports. General Motors was excited to win this award. Also, Motor Trend and Automobile magazines gave Chevy the Volt Vehicle of the year honor. The judging panel at the Los Angeles Auto Show included Jay Leno and performance guru and automotive legend Carroll Shelby. Both the Nissan Leaf and Chevy Volt are known as very green automobiles. Of course, the Leaf is completely electric while the Volt is a plug-in hybrid.
The Leaf gets the award for Auto of the year also
The Nissan Motors Leaf was named the 2011 European Car of the year, according to The Telegraph. A panel of European automotive journals are made the judges of the European Car of the year. From 23 nations, 58 judges showed up. If you do not count golf carts, the Nissan Leaf may be the first automobile manufactured on a major scale that is completely electric. In fact, on all American Car of the year votes, it was second to the Chevy Volt with a very close loss. Both cars will show up to the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. The two vehicles are bound to show down then.
World honor next year
In spring of 2011, the World Auto of the year could be announced, as votes are being compiled. Many who are severe about this are working with the best cars of 2010. Some think an automobile should not be brought into the list until it has been out longer than that. Everybody wants their automobile to last a long time. These should be the ones voted on.
