Facebook Bullying, Phoebe Prince, a psychiatrist’s view

It even got bad enough on Facebook that Phoebe Prince found no peace. The "Mean Girls of South Hadley,” a group of teens from South Hadley High School in South Hadley, MA, bullied the 15-year-old Phoebe Prince mercilessly until she hanged herself. Despite the fact that the teens are all up on charges, it won't replace her life. The Mean girls wrecked her life on online as much as they could also as her physical life. Even after death,

Is it possible to control a bully?

Dr. Ablow states that “In a controlled population like a school system, it is possible, from early grades, to instill in young people a psychiatrist’s view of those who perpetrate violence toward others—as broken, rather than brazen; gripped by emotional disorder, rather instead than in control.” The needed cultural shift can occur once bullies aren't lauded as James Dean-esque rebels anymore. Detention and suspensions are insufficient tools, Dr. Ablow feels – better methods for dealing with discipline in schools are needed. Scorn isn't needed, concern is. Total removal and home schooling until a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist can assure a school that the bully is no longer a threat to themselves or others. Parents or caregivers should be stepping up.
